Bimini
A Poem about Ponce de Leon, Hemingway, MLK and Jimmy Buffett

Ponce De Leon’s three ships set sail from Spain,

Bimini island he sought to obtain.

Searching for the fabled ‘Fountain of Youth’,

To this day historians debate the truth.

​

Hemingway loved to write, box and big game fish,

Bimini’s seas catered to his every wish.
The island inspired “The Old Man and the Sea”

Winning Pulitzer Prize in Fifty-Three.

​

MLK chose Bimini as his backdrop,

Wrote speeches for Nobel and ‘Mountaintop’.

Young Ansil Saunders guided Dr. King,

Not knowing what April 4th would bring.

​

A soul changing flight on Chauk’s seaplane,

Jimmy Buffett’s life was never quite the same.

At Compleat Angler asked for Ernest’s room,

He found his island music, career would boom.

​

Four courageous men who had everything to gain and to lose,

Whose adventurous spirits found on Bimini, their Muse.
