Christ of the Abyss Sonnet
 

Christ of the Abyss statues, there are three,

Created from one mold in Italy.

Off Portofino’s blue coast, the first stands,

Christ gazing to the sky, raising his hands.

 

In the Caribbean many miles away,

The second bronze rests in St George’s Bay.

Italian ship rescued, situation dire,

A gift thanking Grenada after the fire.

 

Pilgrims come to see Christ of the Abyss,

Near Key Largo, a site not to miss.

When you jump out of your boat for a swim,

Underwater, you look down and see Him!

 

Like the Holy Trinity, three came from one for each statue,

Arms raised looking to Heaven expressing, “Peace be with you”.
